Asian Inspired Home Decorating

There are very few themes for decorating a home that capture the imagination quite like an Asian inspired theme. There are many reasons for this one of which is the rich colors, fabrics, and textures that are the hallmark of these themes. There is a simplistic elegance about Asian décor that is almost impossible to imitate in other methods. It is simply put, stunning to walk into a room or a home that has been decorated in an Asian inspired motif.

This is not one of the lesser styles of décor when it comes to price. This elegance comes at a rather high price for the average consumer. However, the sparseness of this home decorating style make it possible when other styles with this sort of price tag would not be possible. One of the most important things to remember when attempting to bring an Asian style of décor into your home is the heavy reliance upon color and texture.

Dining rooms are particularly stunning when decorated in an Asian style. In this situation not only can the implements added to the room serve to improve and enhance the décor but also the placemats on the table can serve as an important tool in establishing the theme of this supremely elegant room. Chopsticks and dishes, particularly tea servings are other great enhancements to an Asian dining room. This is a room that many families will enjoy dining in.

It is recommended that because of the expense involved in many Asian themed home decorating styles that only one or two rooms in the home should be created based upon an Asian theme. This will keep the costs down as well as making those rooms focal points within the home rather than having the splendor lost among the excess.

If you are having a rough time narrowing down the two rooms, the bathroom also makes an excellent room in which to incorporate an Asian inspired theme. This is a room in which people go to relax and wash away the worries and stress of their days. For this reason, it makes perfect sense that some of the more tranquil and relaxing design accents of an Asian décor would be appropriate. Candles, figurines, calligraphy (waterproof of course), and Asian artwork make excellent touches for a bathroom, as do the more tranquil colors of some Asian inspired rooms. Fountains can be added to the room for an added taste of relaxation. Be sure that there is plenty of storage space as clean lines and an uncluttered surface are also important for the overall peaceful affect you should be hoping to achieve.

If either the dining room or bath or unappealing to your home decorating desires for an Asian theme you may want to take the theme into your bedroom. There are very few more romantic themes to incorporate into a bedroom than an Asian theme. You can use fabrics to create a very romantic atmosphere, rice paper window coverings to protect those inside from prying eyes, and candles throughout the room to finish off the creation. Furnishings in this room should be sparse and uncluttered. And Asian screens can be used in order to 'section off' the room or hide the piles of laundry or cluttered areas that you wish not to be detract from the overall romance of the room. Fans make a lovely decoration for the walls in a bedroom as does Oriental art or framed calligraphy in the words of love. Use wall sconces and indirect lighting rather than harsh, glaring overhead lights.

An Asian theme can be one of the most beautiful in the realm of home decorating if you are truly willing to invest the time and money it takes to do this theme properly. It can also be one of the most gaudy if you choose cheap and tacky decorations rather than quality accessories. If you choose to incorporate this theme into your home I hope you will keep that in mind while you are shopping.

Choosing an Indoor Houseplant

When you are choosing a house plant you need to go beyond the appearance of the plant although that is a good place to start. If there is a certain kind of plant that you want to have look into the care instructions first. Some plants need more care and others are best left to an expert gardener as opposed to a novice one. If you fall into the latter category of gardeners you will want plants that are easy to care for, are hardy, and have a low maintenance schedule.

Ferns are a popular choice for indoor gardens as they are easy to care for, do not require to be repotted very often and are attractive. There is a wide range of fern varieties available and each one has a unique look. Some of the different ferns great for houseplants are:

*    Maidenhair Ferns
*    Davallias
*    Fishbone Ferns
*    Cretan Brake Ferns

Begonias are a great choice for the indoors too especially if you do not have a great light source. This plant can survive on very little light each day.  Some will flower indoors but the leaves are beautiful on their own too. They also don’t mind cooler temperatures either, but it should not get colder than 45 degrees Fahrenheit (7 degrees Celsius). A few the begonia varieties available:

*    Rex Begonias
*    Iron Cross Begonias
*    Begonia Masoniana

The fern and begonia aren’t the only breeds of houseplant that will survive even the newest of green thumbs. Here is list of different kinds of plants you can try too:

*    Spider Plants
*    Devil’s Ivy
*    Cast Iron Plants
*    Chinese Evergreen

Once you have a few plants in your indoor garden and are comfortable with the care required, you will have the skill and confidence needed to take care of a higher-needs variety.

Why You Should Start an Indoor Garden

The esthetic appeal of having plants inside your house is the reason the majority of people decide to start gardening indoors.  Whether you have researched and planned on them or not, there are additional benefits that are derived when a green space is created inside you house.

The décor aspect of inside greenery is a given, plants add to and beautify space – indoors and outdoors.  The different plants choices available include various colors, sizes, shapes, flowering vs. non-flowering and this is just the tip of the plant life ice berg.

Just as trees and plants are crucial to our air quality outside, plants can provide the same service for you inside your home.  By taking in carbon dioxide from our breathing, plants flourish.  If you smoke inside your home, plants can help clean the air of the excess carbon dioxide.  Besides the exchange of oxygen for carbon dioxide, plants will purify the air from other unhealthy elements such as air-bound mold particles.  This makes them a natural air filter for your home.

It is well known that gardening is a relaxing past-time.  Having an indoor garden will give you the benefit of this relaxation year round when it is too cold outside to garden.  If you live in an apartment, an outdoor garden may not be possible.  Gardening inside is only limited by the amount of space you want to dedicate to it in your home.  Beautifying your living space and caring for living plants makes owning an indoor garden a peaceful endeavor.

Another benefit of indoor gardening is you can decide how much time you have or want to dedicate to caring for the plants.  If you want a plant that has to be watered less go for a cactus or if you want the challenge of coaxing a flowering tree to blossom buy a camellia.

Saving Energy-Help Save the Environment

As the cost of living continues to rise, energy reports and broadcasts are crammed with energy saving tips and suggestions. Some energy saving tips require initial investments, some just solicit a change of lifestyle. The best energy saving tips are those that require almost nothing but changing a habit. This one is about the wise energy saving choices.

1.Limit, as much as possible, the use of water. Of course water is not that expensive (at least for now); but saving water saves energy. When cleaning the driveway, the deck or patio, using the broom instead of the hose would save several hundreds of gallons of water a year.

2.A push mower is a good idea to mow a small lawn. Aside from not using electricity or fuel to ride the mowing machine, it is also good exercise.

3.Rakes are good leaf movers. Like the push mower, you do not need energy to fuel up a machine to get the job done. There is also a sense of nostalgia in using this traditional tool.

4.Use compact fluorescent light bulbs to light up your driveway or as a security light. CFLs are one of the most handy and energy efficient products that you can have. If you are worried about bugs sticking to the light, there are yellow CFLs that are available.

5.When shopping, avoid going for the disposable ones. Disposable products need more landfills and landfills emit dangerous gasses. Go instead for items that could be used several times over. Again when shopping, go for products that are made of better quality. They might be a little more expensive but generally, quality products last longer.

6.Bring your own bags when shopping. Paper bags are made from trees; the environment can use more of them. Plastic bags on the contrary are oil based and are not biodegradable. If you bring your bag with you, you do not only help in saving energy, you could also get a discount from your store.

7.Batteries contain toxic materials. They produce heavy metal like zinc, zinc, arsenic, cadmium, mercury etc. Thus, disposal needs proper care. Once the heavy metal in batteries seeped into the ground it has a good chance of contaminating the ground. When buying products that would need batteries, pick those that are rechargeable. That way battery disposal is limited and you save on the cost of buying new batteries.

8.Good thing that SUV sales everywhere are going down (well, at least for the environment and not for car manufacturers). SUVs use much more energy than compact sedans for the same distance. While using SUV’s could be fun, there is also that tinge of indifference to the current energy issues and environmental problems we are facing. Reducing the use of SUVs on the street may not mean much in terms greenhouse gas emissions but is a signal to manufacturers to build more energy efficient vehicles.

9.The use of solar power is an excellent idea if you want to tackle the issues of energy conservation and environment protection. If there is one thing that the world needs most at this time, it is the widespread use of solar power.

10.Energy saving devices may cost a little extra but the pays offs are much more than the extra cost in terms longer life spans and energy saved.

New Homes

When you decide that you want to own your own home, you have to decide if you want to look at the current homes on the market, or if you want to look into new homes. There are many building developments where you can get a new home, or you can build one on your own. Though I think many people would rather build their own, most don’t want to put the time and the money into it. I can understand that. Though it would be great, there is considerable work involved, even if you aren’t the ones doing the building.

You can find new homes that come as kits. Some of the kits come with everything you need, and others are just pre-planned homes that you can build on your own. Those who want to build new homes, but aren’t really into designing the entire thing, might want to go with a kit to save time and some money. There are even programs out there for those with not-so-hot credit that allows them to build their own home. This program even gives them a year to build before the mortgage payments kick in.

Some new homes are built in great places, and this is often why some choose to build on their own. They may have fallen in love with some land, but that land does not come with a house. Some parents have land that they give to their children, and that means they have to build new homes when they decide to use it. Others like to buy new homes simple because they like the idea of being the first and only family to live in their house, and they hope to keep that house in their family for a long time to come.

If you want something new, you should talk to someone at your bank about what it might cost, and if this is something that you can afford. You may have to make mortgage payments while your home is being built, and that means paying rent at the same time until you can move in. It is also more expensive to build, so that is another consideration. You have to think about what you want the most, and if you have the money and the time, there really is no reason why you can’t build your dream house on the perfect spot of land if that is what you want to do.

Security Camera System

In today’s day and age a security camera system is just another tool one can use to make one feel safer whether at one’s home, at one’s business, school campus, banks, industrial complexes, casinos, airports, etc.

This is closed circuit television which means a signal is transported from point to point and is not open like broadband television which is what you normally see on your television.

The system can monitor what is happening on any premises where it is set up without the need for a human monitor being on site. If you are away on vacation and your system is set up it can alert you by means of a pager or email.

For police work they can be invaluable as it can be seen on camera who is committing a crime. For an industrial or chemical plant, this sort of surveillance camera can be used in remote areas to view behavior of a system or to observe areas of operation which would not be environmentally friendly to human presence on a routine basis.

The cameras of today are digital and infrared and able to see at night time in the dark. They can also be wireless and easy to set up.

There are also false security cameras which look like the real thing but are not actual cameras and can be mounted on a wall or ceiling to make a potential criminal believe there is a security camera system when there is not one. There are security signs that blink to grab attention.

There are a multitude of resources on the internet for the purchase of such systems. For installation there are a number of factors to consider such as how many cameras, what is the light source, do you want them inside/outside, do you want them connected to your computer, do you want them to record what they see or just be there to view, what color, do you want them to record audio as well as video, hardwired or wireless, etc. Wireless can be more flexible as the cameras can be moved around, whereas hardwired cameras become a bit difficult to move from place to place.

As with any similar high tech field such as computers, there is much to learn about the various systems and what they do. There is information on line, but it may be advisable to find someone knowledgeable in this field to spend some time with you to go over your options rather than rushing into a purchase. The more you know about this and educate yourself the easier your shopping will be.

Cameras of this sort can be so well hidden, you will never know that you are being watched. It is a bit scary to know that your every move could be monitored even let us say from a remote satellite up in space, however these cameras do have their uses and they are a part of today’s world.

Home Swimming Pool Safety

While a swimming pool can be a great addition to any home, it can also be dangerous. You have the responsibility of making sure everyone is safe while using it. You also need to protect the area from unwanted guests that may wonder around unsupervised. It is important to realize that while having a home swimming pool can improve the value of your property it is also viewed as a liability.
This means you may end up paying much more for homeowner’s insurance. Make sure you talk to your agent about this so that you know what the additional premium is going to cost you. They may recommend that you have friends and family members sign waivers before they swim in your pool. This means you won’t be held liable for any damages or injuries that occur while they are on your property. Doing so can help you to keep those homeowners insurance rates at a reasonable price.
A privacy fence that is at least seven feet tall is a good idea as well. That way you can prevent people from getting in. Many individuals won’t even know that you have a swimming pool out there either with such a fence in place. A look on the gate to it is important as well. Children can be very curious and you don’t want anyone to accidentally get in without your knowledge.
Your entire family should learn how to swim very well. They should also be trained in CPR. Even expert swimmers can have problems in the water so don’t become over confident. A buddy system should be in place where no one is using the swimming pool without someone else being present. Children should never be using the swimming pool without an adult present. While you want the pool to be fun it can be dangerous so don’t take unnecessary risks.
Have some equipment readily available that you can toss in to those in need should you need to. Doing so can help them avoid panic if they feel they are in trouble in the water. Limit the number of people that come over to use the swimming pool at any one time too. That way you can easily keep a good eye on everyone. You don’t want some individuals to be unsupervised in the water due to their being too many people around to do a good job in this department.
Make sure everyone uses sunscreen for daytime swimming as well. That will help to prevent sunburns. It will also decrease the risk of skin cancer developing. Keep the area around the swimming pool clear of debris so people don’t get hurt. Look for materials you can install that help with traction when they have wet feet. You can find plenty of ideas from swimming pool dealerships and on the internet.
Night time swimming can be great fun too. Use lights to illuminate from your house to your swimming pool. There are many designs of such lights so you can find some that are very attractive for the décor in your backyard. There are even solar lights you can install that won’t cost you anything for electricity. The cells collect solar energy during the day and then give off light at night. When the sun comes up again the next morning they will turn off automatically.
The chemicals you add to your swimming pool are in place to make the water safe to swim in. If you aren’t using them like you should you put people at risk. There are various types of bacteria and algae found in swimming pools that can lead to illnesses. With the right allocation of these products though you won’t be seeing that happen. People will be able to use your swimming pool without worrying about it.
Safety needs to be a priority when you have a swimming pool. It is your responsibility to make sure everyone is safe in it. Doing your part will ensure you have nothing but fond memories of your time while in the swimming pool. You may find you need to put additional measures in place too depending on your swimming pool and your home. Look for possible problems and find a good solution before they can arise.

Design Water Features

Whether you are a corporate millionaire, or just someone with a backyard to decorate, designing water features can do a whole world of good for the layout of your land. After all, there is nothing more soothing than flowing water. A lot of people take a pretty simplistic approach to decoration, so they miss the point. After all, when you design water features, you have to put some time and effort into it, as well as some money.

Water features are not cheap. Setting up a water fountain in your yard, particularly a custom one, can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars. For a big corporate water feature, the range can be thousands or even tens of thousands. Nonetheless, it is worth it. Indoor water features often become centers of gathering inside of malls, corporate headquarters, or public buildings. Outdoor custom water fountains are some of the most beautiful, serene places to contemplate the beauty of nature, even if you are in the middle of a bustling urban setting. As long as you can find something within your price range, I guarantee the expense will be worth it.

There are all kinds of ways to design water features. Many people never think about how many designs incorporate elements of water in them. Custom indoor waterfalls, for example, rarely have a naturalistic look. Instead, they usually have water flowing over a transparent, glowing surface. When the companies design water features of this type, light plays as much of a role in the design as water, as does the properties of water flowing over a surface. With smooth glass, you can give the water a shimmering, slow-moving look even when it is moving down a vertical surface. This can be perfect for contemplation, as well as for diffusing light into the room.

Of course, a lot of the water feature design software out there nowadays is for the simpler types. There is a good reason for this. If you are an amateur, you would be better to make a fountain on your own than one of these more ambitious designs. Working with glass can be difficult, and the cost of failure can be quite pricey. When you are working with rocks, tubing, and pumps, it is easier to succeed, and almost impossible to ruin your equipment with a mistake. That is why most of the amateurs who design water features opt for something that looks like it could be bubbling from an underground spring.

Do You Need Acoustical Ceiling Tiles?

There are many things you can do to make your home more pleasant, but most think of things like getting a new color carpet, painting the walls, and even getting new furniture. You should remember that being in a room is more about the sight of it. There are four other senses that you must take into consideration. One thing you should really think about is the quality of sound you have in your room. Not only do you want things to sound nice, you want to be sure the sounds of your home are not carrying off into the neighborhood either. Acoustical ceiling tiles are great for both things.

One thing that acoustical ceiling tiles can do for your home is enhance the sound that comes out of your stereo or surround sound system. This means that the acoustic tiles will not absorb too much of the sound, but bounce it back to your ear in a very pleasant manner. The sounds should not be harsh when bounced from acoustical ceiling tiles, but should come back in a clean and true manner. If you have the right tiles, and your system set up correctly, you will find that you get an amazing sound in your home that can only be topped by a real movie theater. You may have to pay more for this type of acoustical ceiling tiles, but if you want awesome sound, you may find it a worthwhile investment.

Acoustical ceiling tiles are also great when you have neighbors that are very close. If you have young children, pets, or even just have rather loud voices, these can help keep your personal life to yourselves. These acoustic tiles for the ceiling can help keep the sound good within your space, but will also make sure those sounds and events are confined within your walls. These are great when you have an apartment, though the installation of them will be up to your landlord. These are the main reason why some apartment buildings are very comfortable and others are just not what they should be.

These are not just for apartments though, as they can be great in single homes as well. If you have a small place, they can help keep noise from moving from room to room. If you have acoustical ceiling tiles between floors, much of the noise from each floor is effectively contained. When buying acoustic tiles, talk with a store representative about your particular problem and which type would work best for you. Though some of these are rather plain, there are some designer types out there if that is what you need for your home.
